WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers were active Monday, signing three new defensive players and inviting a local receiver to camp.
They signed import defensive backs Bert Brown (Union College) and David James (Weber State) plus import linebacker Daniel Sheffield (Troy), who was one of the final cuts last season at the Saskatchewan Roughriders camp.
Brown, six-feet, 169 pounds, had 123 tackles, nine interceptions and 35 pass knockdowns in four seasons and James, five-eleven, 190, finished with 98 tackles and four interceptions over three.
Sheffield, six-foot-three, 206 pounds, played three seasons with the Trojans and finished with 147 defensive tackles, seven tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and one interception.
The Bombers also invited CJFL all-Canadian receiver Brett Carter to camp.
At six-feet, 200 pounds, he had a conference-leading 48 receptions and 782 yards with the Winnipeg Rifles last season, his second with the junior team.
