ST. JOHN'S, N.L. -- Ed Pasquale had a 24-save shutout as the St. John's IceCaps downed the Binghamton Senators 1-0 Saturday in American Hockey League action.

Eric O'Dell was the lone scorer for the IceCaps (21-22-3).

Robin Lehner made 29 saves for the Senators (27-12-4).

The first period was a goaltender's battle despite the low shot total. St. John's out-shot Binghamton 9-6, as both teams traded chances in the scoreless period.

Lehner, who boasted a 16-6-1 record with a 1.90 goals-against average and .945 save percentage coming into the game, made numerous big saves, including shutting down Hunter Tremblay's breakaway.

St. John's looked to have broken the 0-0 tie at 10:45 in the second period, but the goal was waved off as soon as it was scored. It appeared that O'Dell had a goal, but it was waved off for goaltender interference.

The Senators found themselves in penalty trouble in the second period. Binghamton combined for eight penalty minutes in the period, all taken within a five-minute span of each other.

O'Dell scored at the 11:38 mark of the second while the IceCaps were playing six on four due to a delayed penalty.

O'Dell took the puck coming over the blue-line, and skated in to net a brilliant solo effort. O'Dell dangled while skating across the crease and beat Lehner at the back post.

St. John's got into some penalty trouble of their own to end the period, giving Binghamton a five-on-three at the end of the second period. The IceCaps killed the penalties without incident.

The IceCaps had another disallowed goal midway through the third period when Jason Jaffray's shot hit the crossbar and came back out before Lehner smothered it at 9:52.

The Senators offence was a step behind without leading scorer Mike Hoffman and rookie Mark Stone who were out of the lineup.

St. John's went 1 for 7 on the power play and the Senators were 0 for 3.
