The Calgary Flames have traded Blake Comeau to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick.
The 27-year-old winger has scored four goals and added three assists in 33 games with the Flames this season.
"I think I realize that maybe I had a chance of being traded with my contract being up and us not being in the playoff picture right now, knowing that changes were going to be coming," Comeau told flames.com. "It caught me a little bit off guard but still in the back of my mind knew there could be a chance that I was going to be traded."
Originally selected in the second round (47th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the New York islanders, Comeau has scored 65 goals and 78 assists in 352 career NHL games with the Islanders and Flames.
Comeau signed a one-year deal with the Flames prior to this season worth $1.25 million. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
