The New York Rangers have acquired defenceman John Scott from the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2012 fifth round draft pick.

The scrappy Scott has registered one assist and 48 penalty minutes in 29 games with the Blackhawks this season.

In 140 career games with the Blackhawks and the Minnesota Wild, Scott has scored one goal and four assists while racking up 231 penalty minutes.

Scott is in the final year of a two-year deal he signed with the Hawks in 2010 worth an average annual value of $512,500.

He was originally signed by the Wild as an undrafted free agent during the 2006-07 season.
