The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenceman Keith Aulie to the Tampa Bay Lightning for forward Carter Ashton.

Ashton, 20, has scored 19 goals and 16 assists in 56 games with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League this season.

Taken in the first round (29th overall) by Tampa Bay in 2009, the 6'3 Ashton brings size to Toronto's farm system.

The Winnipeg native was a member of Canada's Silver-Medal winning team at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship.

The 22-year-old Aulie has two assists in 17 games with the Maple Leafs this season. He was held pointless in 23 games with the Leafs last season.

The six-foot-six, 217-pound native of Rouleau, Sask., has also appeared in 20 games with the Marlies, registering one assist.

Aulie was drafted in the fourth round (116th overall) by the Calgary Flames in 2007. The Maple Leafs acquired him in the trade that brought Dion Phaneuf to Toronto in 2010.
