The Canadian Football Hall of Fame welcomed six new members on Thursday, headlined by former CFL players Earl Winfield, Miles Gorrell and Dan Ferrone.

Also among the list of six inductees are long-time CFL official Jake Ireland, former University of Alberta standout Brian Fryer and legendary St. Francis Xavier head coach Don Loney.

The announcement was made on TSN SportsCentre by 2012 Canadian Football Hall of Fame inductee Damon Allen.

Winfield spent his entire 11-year career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, was named an All-Canadian twice and appeared in the 1989 Grey Cup. He is fourth all-time in the CFL with 41 100-yard receiving games, 11th for the combined yards with 14,804, and second with 11 punt returns for touchdowns. He is also the Tiger-Cats all-time leader with 10,119 receiving yards and 75 receiving touchdowns. In 2005, he became a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Wall of Honour.

Gorrell enjoyed a 19-year CFL career with five teams, most notability with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, where he won his only Grey Cup in 1986.  Upon his retirement in 1996, Gorrell ranked fourth all-time on the CFL service list with 321 games played.

Ferrone played in 213 games, mostly with the Toronto Argonauts and a brief stint with the Calgary Stampeders from 1981-92. He appeared in four Grey Cups with the Argonauts, winning twice. Off the field, he was the President of the Canadian Football League Players Association (CFLPA) from 1993-2002.

Ireland was a CFL official for 555 games over 29 seasons, starting in 1979. He was an official in 16 Grey Cups, and refereed four straight Grey Cups from 1985 to 1989.

During his four seasons at the University of Alberta, Fryer finished second all-time in Canada West history in the following categories; most receiving yards in a season (1,068), most receptions in a season (58), most receiving touchdowns in a season (14), most receiving yards (2,655) and most receptions (136). He was became the second Canadian trained at a Canadian university to be drafted and signed by a NFL team (Washington Redskins). In 1978, he signed with the Edmonton Eskimos and was part of the dynasty that won five straight Grey Cups.

During his 17-year tenure as head coach at St. Francis Xavier University, Loney led his team to a 133-31-2 record, nine conference titles, four Atlantic Bowl Championships, six Jewett Trophy Championships, and one Canadian College Bowl Championship. As a player, he played eight seasons with the Toronto Argonauts and Ottawa Rough Riders, winning two Grey Cups along the way. He is also a member of the Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.
