BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Juan Martin del Potro says he will not play for Argentina against Italy next year in the opening round of the Davis Cup.
In a statement Friday, del Potro said he made the decision after talking with his coach and medical team.
Argentina hosts Italy on Jan. 31-Feb. 2.
Del Potro skipped the Davis Cup in 2013, deciding to focus on ATP events. He also cited differences of opinion with captain Martin Jaite for his decision.
In the statement, del Potro did not indicate his plans for the rest of the Davis Cup season, should Argentina advance.
