Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Sports Network) - Seventh-seeded Canadian Vasek Pospisil was among Tuesday's first-round winners at the $875,500 Malaysian Open tennis event.
Pospisil rallied past Victor Hanescu 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 on the hardcourts at Putra Indoor Stadium.
Pablo Cuevas took down 2009 champion and eighth seed Nikolay Davydenko 6-3, 6-4. Cuevas is playing in only his fifth tournament of the season. He's been struggling with on and off knee problems.
Pablo Andujar and Grega Zemlja split the first two sets before the latter retired from the match.
Qualifier Mischa Zverev discarded Horacio Zeballos 7-6(5), 6-2, Pablo Carreno Busta defeated Alex Bogomolov Jr. 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 and Matteo Viola beat Somdev Devvarman 6-3, 6-3.
The 2013 Malaysian Open champion will claim $158,000.
