The International Tennis Federation announced Wednesday that Canada will play an away tie against Ukraine in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II playoff tie on April 20 and 21, 2013. Canada and Ukraine will meet in Fed Cup play for the first time. Choice of surface, venue and team nominations will be decided at a later date.
Last week in Medellin, Colombia, team Canada captain Sylvain Bruneau, Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC), Stéphanie Dubois (Laval, QC), Sharon Fichman (Toronto, ON) and Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa, ON) took home top honours at the Americas Zone Group I competition after defeating Brazil 2-1 in the final to book their place in a World Group II playoff.

Ukraine fell 3-1 to Spain in the first round of world group II play last weekend in Spain.

The Canadians, who last reached World Group II status in 2011, currently rank No. 21 on the Fed Cup world rankings, while Ukraine sits at No. 14 on the ITF list.
