TORONTO -- Rising singles star Milos Raonic has won Tennis Canada's male player of the year award for the second straight year.

Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., won two ATP World Tour titles in 2012 and ended the season as the highest-ranked North American player at No. 13.

"It is a great honour to receive this recognition from Tennis Canada again this year," Raonic said Wednesday in a release. "It was a great season but I'm working to continue to grow and develop as a player. All the support I've received this year from the Canadian fans has been incredible and I'm excited to see the growth of our sport continue in Canada."

Toronto's Daniel Nestor took the male doubles player of the year honour for the 12th consecutive year. He won the 2012 French Open and added four other victories to become just the fourth player to reach 80 career ATP World Tour wins.

Vancouver's Filip Peliwo was named most outstanding junior male player and most improved male player. He reached all four junior Slam finals this year and was victorious at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

The Tennis Canada Excellence Awards are selected by a committee comprised of high-ranking Tennis Canada personnel and top national coaches. The recipients of the female awards will be announced Thursday.
