After a superb season in which he won two junior Grand Slam titles, Vancouver's Filip Peliwo has been named the Junior World Champion by the International Tennis Federation.

Peliwo is just the second Canadian to be honoured as a World Champion after veteran doubles star Daniel Nestor.

The 18-year-old Peliwo reached all four junior grand slam finals in 2012, and won the Wimbledon and U.S. Open titles. He was the first player to reach all four finals in 28 years, and reached the top of the ITF junior rankings on July 9.

"This is such a great achievement and a huge honour to be recognized by the ITF for this award," said Peliwo in a statement. "I exceeded even my own expectations this past year and to have the year-end No. 1 ranking is something really special that I am proud of."

Peliwo, along with Eugenie Bouchard on the girls' side, became the first Canadians to win junior grand slam titles when they swept the Wimbledon championships in July.
