Bouchard withdraws from Washington hardcourt event

Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard of Canada withdrew Thursday from the Citi Open next week. Tournament officials didn't provide a reason for Bouchard's decision to pull out of the Washington event. She hasn't played on tour since losing to Petra Kvitova in the final at Wimbledon on July 5. Moving On In Atlanta

Top-seeded John Isner avoided an upset in his Atlanta Open title defence Thursday night, rallying for a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 victory over wild-card entry Robby Ginepri in the second round. Trailing 5-4 in the third set, the 12th-ranked Isner fought off two match points and evened it at 5-5 with consecutive aces. Full Story.

Dynamic Duo

Fourth-seeded Vasek Pospisil of Vancouver advanced to the Atlanta Open quarter-finals, beating Ukrainian qualifier Illya Marchenko 7-5, 6-3 on Wednesday. American Jack Sock topped New Zealand's Michael Venus 6-4, 6-2 in another second-round match, and seventh-seeded Yen-hsun Lu of Taiwan beat American Alex Kuznetsov 6-4, 6-4 in a first-round match.
