OKLAHOMA CITY -- Sara Nevins and Jessica Moore combined on a two-hitter, Valerie Arioto delivered a two-run single and the U.S. beat Canada 7-0 in six innings on Thursday in the opening game of the World Cup of Softball for both teams.

Lauren Gibson added a two-run homer and scored three runs for the U.S., which has won the last six World Cups. The U.S. moved to 40-4 all-time in the World Cup, one of the major events on the international softball circuit.

Arioto's bases-loaded single with one out in the first inning scored Michelle Moultrie and Gibson to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead. Gibson and Tennessee teammate Raven Chavanne successfully executed a double steal during a two-run second inning, and Gibson hit her homer during a three-run fifth.
