Funk wins silver in 50-metre breaststroke at Grand Prix

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Edmonton's Richard Funk won the silver medal in the 50-metre breaststroke and bronze in the 100-metre breaststroke on Friday at the Charlotte Grand Prix swimming competition.

In the 50-metre event, Mihail Alexandrov of Bulgaria took the gold in 27.71 seconds with Funk second in 28.11 and Jorge Murillo of Colombia third in 28.28.

Alexandrov also won the 100-metre breaststroke in 1:01.00, Murillo was second in 1:01.72 and Funk third in 1:02.03.

There were three Canadian finalists in women's competition: Samantha Cheverton of Pointe-Claire, Que., was fifth in the women's 200-metre freestyle while Marnie Oldershaw and Annie Harrison, both of Oakville, Ont., were sixth and seventh in the 400-metre individual medley.
