The Chicago Blackhawks continue to reign atop the NHL Power Rankings, this being their eighth consecutive week above the rest.

Trailing the Blackhawks are the Boston Bruins, fresh off the addition of Jaromir Jagr from Dallas, and the Montreal Canadiens, who are three points ahead of the Bruins in the Northeast Division.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have dropped to fourth, despite a 15-game winning streak because injuries have robbed them of their top two defencemen, Kris Letang and Paul Martin, as well as the best player in the world, Sidney Crosby. It's impossible to point to the Penguins' success and pretend that it would have happened without the contributions of these players.

Winners of five straight, the San Jose Sharks climbed from 19 to 10, while four straight wins helped lift the Edmonton Oilers from 24 to 12 and the Columbus Blue Jackets' push for a playoff berth has seen them climb to virtually unprecedented heights, up from 21 to 16.

St. Louis loaded up on defence, with Jordan Leopold then Jay Bouwmeester, but injuries to right-winger T.J. Oshie and, more importantly, goaltender Jaroslav Halak knocked them down from seven to 13.

Missing Henrik Zetterberg and getting thumped 7-1 at home by Chicago, Detroit fell from 11 to 19, their lowest ranking of the season.

Three straight losses dropped Winnipeg from 15 to 22 and Dallas, after the purge, sits at 26, down from 18.

As for the rest of the Canadian teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs have tied their season-high ranking of sixth, one spot ahead of the Ottawa Senators. The Vancouver Canucks sit at 14 and the Calgary Flames have hit rock bottom, ranked 30th out of 30 now that they've traded right-winger Jarome Iginla and defenceman Jay Bouwmeester.
