Toronto FC opens new era with preseason win over D.C. United

Toronto FC kicked off its new era with a 1-0 preseason win over D.C. United on Wednesday night.

Forward Bright Dike scored the game's only goal in the 85th minute on a foggy night in Bradenton, Fla.

Michael Bradley, the 26-year-old U.S. international who was acquired from Serie A side Roma in January for a reported $10 million transfer fee, made his first appearence as a starting midfielder.

Dwayne De Rosario, making his return to the Reds lineup for the first time since he was traded to United in 2011, was also in the starting 11.

Another highly touted transfer, Jermain Defoe, did not make his debut.
