Wayne Rooney is expected to be out for the next three weeks due to a cut on his forehead, Manchester United manager David Moyes said.
Rooney sustained the injury in training after a collision with teammate Phil Jones, and he will likely miss England's upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Moldova and Ukraine.
"The cut is right down the middle of his forehead where it takes a wee while to heal," Moyes said. "Probably [he will be out for] three weeks. Phil Jones lifted his boot and caught him right down the middle of his forehead."
After sitting out Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, Rooney now faces a race to be fit in time for United's showdown with Manchester City on Sept. 22.
Rooney also missed a large portion of the preseason because of hamstring and shoulder problems.
