ROME -- Frenchman Rudi Garcia has been hired to coach Roma, becoming the capital club's fourth different manager in two years since coming under American ownership.

Roma made the announcement Wednesday, saying that Garcia has agreed to a two-year-deal which will be deposited with Serie A over the next few days.

Roma president and Boston Celtics minority owner James Pallotta said Garcia "has proven to be a winner and he has a great vision of football and we believe he comes in line perfectly with our plans for the future."

Garcia has coached Lille for the past five seasons. In 2010-11, he led the team to the French league and Cup double, earning domestic manager of the year honours.

"Today a new page is being turned," Garcia said in New York, where the deal was sealed. "I'm honoured and filled with pride to come to Roma, with the goal of winning titles with this club."

Pallotta leads a four-man group of Boston executives who are the first foreign majority owners of a Serie A club. The U.S. group began with Luis Enrique in charge for 2011-12, hired Zdenek Zeman to start 2012-13, fired Zeman in February and then had Aurelio Andreazzoli lead the club on an interim basis for the rest of last season.

Roma finished sixth last season and lost to city rival Lazio in the Italian Cup final, missing out on a spot in Europe for next season.
