LONDON - Tottenham says Brazil midfielder Sandro will miss the rest of the Premier League season following surgery on his right knee.

The 23-year-old Sandro was forced off the field against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday and consultation with Tottenham's knee surgeon has revealed cruciate ligament damage, which will keep the player sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Sandro has been a key player in defensive midfield for the North London club since making his debut in September 2010. He has been a regular this season, making 27 appearances in all competitions.

The former Internacional player has made 16 appearances for Brazil and scored for the country's Olympic team at the 2012 London Games.
