SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Alan Gordon scored in the fourth minute of second-half injury time, giving the San Jose Earthquakes a 1-1 tie against Mexico's Toluca on Tuesday night in the first leg of their quarter-final matchup in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Raul Nava scored in the 67th minute for Toluca, which hosts the second leg of the total-goals series on March 19.

Gordon scored from Shea Salinas' free kick on a header that bounced past diving goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera and ricocheted in off the far post. The final whistle blew after the kickoff.

Nava put Toluca ahead with a volley that dipped and left goalkeeper Jon Busch no chance.
