MONTREAL - Montreal Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier has been selected as an MLS All-Star by head coach Peter Vermes ahead of the AT&T MLS All-Star game versus AS Roma at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
In his second season in MLS, Bernier is currently tied for the league lead with four game-winning assists, totalling two goals and five assists in 18 games, including 15 starts. He has been a steady presence in midfield for his hometown club, playing in the Impact's last 34 games - an MLS team record. Bernier was also named the Impact's Most Valuable Player in 2012 after recording nine goals and eight assists in 27 games. He has scored all of his eight career penalty kicks in MLS, including two this season.
Bernier becomes the second Impact player named to the All-Star game. Forward and Designated Player Marco Di Vaio was selected last week, after being voted on by fans through the FIFA "In The Game" challenge.
The AT&T MLS All-Star game can be seen live on TSN and TSN Mobile TV on Wednesday, July 31.
