EDINBURGH -- Scotland could be without one of its leading backs for the entire Six Nations after centre Nick De Luca was ruled out for around two months following surgery to repair a fractured eye socket.

De Luca was hurt while training with Edinburgh last month but the team waited for the damage to his eye to settle before deciding whether to operate.

De Luca, who has been a regular for Scotland since making his debut in 2008, will definitely miss the team's first four matches and is unlikely to be back in time for the tournament-ending trip to France on March 16.

Interim Scotland coach Scott Johnson has already been deprived of the services of scrumhalf Mike Blair, who announced his retirement from international rugby this week.
