Canada claims silver at World Lawn Bowling Championships

Ryan Bester has won a silver medal in singles and a bronze medal in Pairs in Lawn Bowling.

In Pairs play, Ryan and John Bezear came first in their section but lost to Australia in the semifinal to claim the Bronze medal. On Friday, Bester faced South African 's Gerry Baker in the singles semi-finals and after a slow start was down 10-7 and finished with a 21-10 win to qualify for the final.

Singles is played to 21 shots. With a 12-0 record Bester faced Australia's Leif Selby ranked No. 2 in the world. With a slow start he found himself in a quick hole down 9-1 and 17-6 but came back to tie the score 19-19. Holding one shot, the Aussie picked Bester's bowl for two shots for the win and the gold medal.

Ryan had a great run at the Worlds with a combined record of 22 wins and 3 losses. Bester won the World Pairs Championships in 2004 in Scotland and also holds a Bronze Medal from the 2008 World Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand.

On the ladies side, Kelly McKerihen of Toronto won a bronze medal for Canada in singles.
