It appears Eric Staal has played his last hockey game for this season.

According to Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer, Staal will not play for Team Canada in the upcoming World Hockey Championship in Belarus.

Staal's Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in the final regular season game for both teams on Sunday.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario native played in the tournament for Canada last year but suffered a serious knee injury after a knee-on-knee hit from Sweden's Alex Edler.

Staal also has a gold medal from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.
