The Detroit Red Wings avoided salary arbitration with restricted free agent Brendan Smith, inking the defenceman to a two year deal worth $2.525 million.

The 24-year-old Smith missed 11 games with the Red Wings due to a shoulder injury this past season while recording eight assists through 34 games.

In 48 total games with the Red Wings, he has one goal and 14 assists with a plus- 4 rating.

Smith  was drafted by the Red Wings in the first round (27th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
