The Tampa Bay Lightning have agreed to terms with free agent forward Valtteri Filppula on a five-year, $25 million contract.

The deal carries a salary cap hit of $5 million per season.

Last season, Filppula scored nine goals and 17 points in 41 games with the Detroit Red Wings.

Filppula has spent his eight-year career with the Red Wings, scoring 100 goals and adding 151 assists in 483 games.

The 29-year-old centre was originally selected in the third round by the Red Wings at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
