The New York Rangers have decided against using their final compliance buyout on forward Brad Richards this season.

The 33-year-old has seven years and $36 million left on his deal that has an annual cap hit of $6.667 million.

Richards was one of the most coveted free-agents during the off-season in 2011 before he chose to sign with the Rangers spurning reported offers from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers.

He signed a nine-year, $60 million dollar deal that at the time reunited him with former head coach John Tortorella, with whom he captured the Stanley Cup in 2004.

The relationship fell on hard times during the 2012/13 playoffs when Tortorella reduced Richards' playing time and then eventually made him a healthy scratch while the team was down 3 games to none against the Boston Bruins.

During the regular season, Richards scored 11 goals and added 23 assists in 46 games and only had one goal in 10 post season games, before being relegated to the press box.

The Rangers used  their first compliance buyout on defenceman Wade Redden earlier in the year.
