There will be no supplementary discipline for Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty after his hit on New York Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh on Saturday night.

Pacioretty had a phone hearing on Sunday with National Hockey League Director of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan.

Pacioretty delivered the hit just over seven minutes into the second period of the Canadiens' 3-0 win Saturday night, taking McDonagh hard into the end boards in the Rangers' zone.

The 24-year-old Pacioretty was assessed a boarding minor on the play, while McDonagh would leave the game following the hit and did not return.

Rangers head coach John Tortorella was vocally unimpressed with the hit, venting his frustration to reporters after the game.

"Can I ask the first question? How high did Pacioretty jump on his hit, can anyone tell me?" he asked to kick off his post-game press conference. "I'm asking you guys. Over/under?"

When given an estimate of six inches, Tortorella responded bluntly with "You're wrong."

In 14 games this season Pacioretty has registered four goals and 13 points, good for a share of the Canadiens team lead.

Pacioretty has been suspended once by the NHL, receiving a three-game ban on Dec. 6, 2011 for a hit to the head of Pittsburgh defenceman Kris Letang.
