EDMONTON -- Alberta Premier Alison Redford says there will be no new lottery or gaming scheme to make up the $107-million shortfall for a new Edmonton Oilers arena.

Redford, in an interview, says cities already get money from the province for such projects under the Municipal Sustainability Initiative program.

She says it's up to Edmonton to decide whether or not to dip into that program for the arena.

Her comments come two days after the city and the Edmonton Oilers agreed to a framework funding deal to build the $480-million facility for the NHL team.

Mayor Stephen Mandel has said he hopes the province will come through with a new funding scheme to pay for the final $107 million, with another $7 million coming from Ottawa.

Alberta Finance Minister Doug Horner has talked about crafting such a lottery or gaming fund, but Redford says recent number crunching and a tight budget make that impossible.
