The Toronto Maple Leafs bolstered their blue line on Sunday with the addition of free agents Cody Franson and Mike Mottau.

According to TSN Insider Bob McKenzie, Franson's deal is likely to be for one year and worth $1.2 million.

In 57 games with the Leafs in 2011-12, Franson scored five goals and added 16 assists. He played with Brynas of the Swedish Elite League during the NHL Lockout, scoring three goals and four assists in 26 games.

Toronto acquired Franson from the Nashville Predators along with Matthew Lombardi prior to the 2011-12 season in exchange for Brett Lebda, Robert Slaney and a conditional fourth-round draft pick.

Originally drafted by Nashville in the third round (79th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Franson has scored 19 goals and 52 assists in 198 career NHL games between the Maple Leafs and Predators.

The Maple Leafs also signed defenceman Mike Mottau, who has spent time with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL this season, registering seven assists in 16 games.

Mottau agreed to a one-year, two-way deal that will see him earn $850,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 at the AHL level.

Last year the 34-year-old was with the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils, recording two assists in 35 games.
