Ray Emery will get the call in net for the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night when the team opens up its opening round Metropolitan Division playoff series in New York against the Rangers.

Flyers coach Craig Berube announced on Wednesday that starter Steve Mason would be unavailable for the series opener. Mason incurred an upper-body injury last Saturday late in the second period in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins when he collided with Penguins forward Jayson Megna. The Flyers were hopeful that Mason would have been ready for Game 1.

Emery is no stranger to the playoffs, backstopping the Ottawa Senators to a Stanley Cup appearance in 2007. The 31-year-old Emery last suited up in the postseason in 2011 as a member of the Anaheim Ducks. Thursday night will mark Emery's 50th playoff appearance.

In 28 games this season, Emery posted a 9-12-2 record with 2.96 goals against average and a save percentage of .906.
