With the NHL Trade Deadline a day away, teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell. Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat, and follow TSN.ca each day until Deadline Day for all the updates.A Different Approach?

Staying The Course?

Stephen Whyno of the Washington Times ponders whether the Capitals will decide to be buyers or sellers.

With the Capitals still chasing a playoff berth, they may not be willing to risk their present or future on a rental player.

“I think we're close enough into the playoffs that it's not going to be a fire sale around here,” forward Troy Brouwer said. “I think we have too many good players, too many assets right now to try and get rid of players and build for the future. We're very bent on making the playoffs, very focused on making the playoffs and you can't really worry about those things.”

The player most affected by this could be Mike Ribeiro, who is in the final season of his deal, and is in search of a long-term deal.

A Different Approach?

Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star says that while the Maple Leafs are still in the hunt for help in net, they may "set their sights lower."

“There's always an urge to try to do something,” said Leafs' general manager Dave Nonis. “That's natural, to want to add, or to change. But you better take a long walk around the block before you make a big move, if it's going to suck some of the future out of your team.”

McGran suggests the Flames' Joey MacDonald or Panthers' Scott Clemmensen as other options for Toronto.

Exploring Their Options

Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that an NHL source confirmed the Flyers had "exploratory trade talks" about making a move for former Flyer and current Dallas Star Jaromir Jagr, Sharks' forward Ryane Clowe, and Flames defenceman Jay Bouwmeester (prior to Bouwmeester bbing dealt to the Blues Monday night).

With the injuries on their blue line, Carchidi goes on to discuss the possibility of pursuing Hurricanes defenceman Jamie McBain as well.
