Just a couple years ago Darrelle Revis was widely considered the top cornerback in the NFL. Now he can be had by any team willing to pay his salary.
According to a report from ESPN, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are shopping the veteran CB and plan on releasing him Wednesday if they can't find a trade partner.
Revis' release would come before a scheduled roster bonus is due. The timing of Revis' potential release is also significant because the fourth-round pick the Bucs traded to the New York Jets for Revis would become a third-round pick if the 28-year-old was still on the roster after Wednesday.
In Revis' only season with Tampa Bay, he recorded 43 tackles and two interceptions.
Revis has 21 career interceptions through seven years, six with the Jets. New York traded Revis to the Bucs after the 2012 season, an injury-marred campaign for Revis, for a first-round pick and the conditional pick that will likely become a fourth-rounder.
Revis is a six-time Pro Bowler.
