MONTREAL -- Adonis Stevenson wants to take care of unfinished business before he makes his first bid for a world boxing title.

Stevenson (19-1), a power puncher from Longueuil, Que., will face American Darnell Boone (19-20-3), the only man ever to beat him in the ring, in a non-title bout Friday night at the Bell Centre.

Stevenson hopes to use the fight as a tune-up for (Bad) Chad Dawson, who he will challenge for the World Boxing Council light heavyweight title on June 8.

Another Montreal-area fighter, Jean Pascal, was supposed to fight Dawson, but pulled out in order to take a better-paying and higher-profile local mega-bout with former IBF champion Lucian Bute on May 25 at the Bell Centre.

Stevenson's career hit a major snag when he was stopped in two rounds by Boone in 2010. After the loss, he rebuilt himself under Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward to become a top-ranked super-middleweight.

To prepare for moving up to light heavyweight (175 pounds) to face Dawson, the Boone bout will be at a catch-weight of 173 pounds.

The co-feature is an all-local affair between ranked light heavyweights Nicholson Poulard (19-3) and Eleider Alvarez (11-0). Poulard is Pascal's half-brother.
