UFC releases light-heavyweight Penner after two losses

TORONTO -- Canadian light-heavyweight Nick (The Quiet Assassin) Penner has been released by the UFC.

The 32-year-old from Blemonort, Man., who trains out of Edmonton, went 0-2 in the UFC with first-round losses to Cody Donovan and Anthony Perosh in 2012.

He arrived in the UFC on the back of an eight-fight win streak.

A UFC spokesman confirmed Penner's release.

Chad Griggs, Marcus LeVesseur, John Cofer, Joey Gambino, Henry Martinez, Jeff Hougland, Jared Papazian and Yasuhiro Urushitani have reportedly also been let got.

In other UFC news, Swedish light-heavyweight Alexander (The Mauler) Gustafsson will face former Strikeforce champion Gegard Mousasi of the Netherlands in Stockholm on April 6.
