The Los Angeles Angels appear to be taking a chance on pitcher Mark Mulder.

The deal - reported via Twitter by ESPN.com and Fox Sports - is an incentive-laden minor league contract.

Mulder last pitched in the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2008 where he posted a 10.80 earned-run average in 1.2 innings pitched.

A veteran of nine MLB seasons, Mulder has posted a 103-60 record in 203 career starts with the Cardinals and Oakland Athletics. He finished second in American League Cy Young voting (to then-Yankee Roger Clemens) in 2001 with a league-high 21 wins.

The Angels could pay Mulder up to $6 million is all incentives are reached.
