NEW YORK, New York - An MRI conducted on Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Josh Johnson's pitching arm revealed triceps inflammation but no structural damage.

"Always the first thing they look at when it's in that area is the ligament," said Johnson. "Everything looks really good. Just have to get it out of there and start throwing."

Johnson, 29, missed his scheduled start on Friday. It's unclear when he will next appear in a game. His regular turn in the rotation would be Thursday at Rogers Centre against the Red Sox.

Manager John Gibbons said he hopes Johnson will pitch "late next week."

The plan is for Johnson to play catch on either Sunday or Monday. If that goes well, he would progress to a full bullpen session on Tuesday, to be followed by another round of catch.

In four starts this season, Johnson is 0-1 with an ERA of 6.86.

GERMANO RECALLED

The Blue Jays, dealing with an overworked bullpen, have recalled Justin Germano from Triple-A Buffalo.

Germano, 30, is 3-1 with the Bisons despite an ERA of 6.65.

In 93 major league appearances, 48 starts, with five teams over seven seasons, Germano is 10-30 with a 5.27 ERA. He pitched for the Red Sox and Cubs in 2012.

Left-hander Aaron Laffey was designated for assignment after starting Friday night's 6-4 loss to the Yankees.
