(NLL Release) - The Buffalo Bandits acquired defenceman Rory Smith and a fourth-round selection in 2015 on Tuesday in exchange for forward Carter Bender and second round picks in 2013 and 2014.
"Rory is a solid defensive defenseman who also brings a dominant physical presence," said Bandits general manager Steve Dietrich . "At 26 years old, he is a player that will be able to help strengthen our defense both now and in the future."
Smith recorded 51 penalty minutes and 37 loose balls in 15 games with the Mammoth last year, also forcing 17 turnovers. In 85 career NLL games with Colorado, New York/Orlando and Minnesota, Smith has totaled six points, 327 penalty minutes and 237 loose balls.
The Mimico, Ontario native was selected as a starter for the West Division in the 2012 NLL All-Star Game in Buffalo.
"We hate to lose a player like Rory," said Mammoth head coach Bob Hamley, "but we like what Carter can bring to our offence. We're committed to working hard to turn the draft picks into valuable players that will contribute."
Bender, a 24-year-old left-handed scorer, was the 18th overall selection in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft. A University of Hartford alumnus, Bender had a goal and two assists in three games played as an NLL rookie.
