Americans rout Canada for women's lacrosse World Cup title

OSHAWA, Ont. -- American Katie Rowan scored eight times and added two assists to lead the United States past Canada 19-5 on Saturday to win the women's lacrosse World Cup.

Rowan earned Player of the Match honours. Danielle Etrasco and Katrina Dowd both had hat tricks for the U.S., while Dowd added three assists. Caitlyn McFadden had a pair of goals for the Americans, while Lindsay Munday, Katie Schwarzmann and Sarah Albrecht chipped in as well.

Canada reached the final for the first time, finishing its most successful World Cup tournament ever and earning a No. 2 world ranking.

Mandy Friend and Megan Takacs both scored a pair of goals for the Canadians. Kaylin Morissette added a single.
