PETERBOROUGH, Ont. -- The Langley Thunder took a 2-0 stranglehold on the best-of-seven Mann Cup series with a 15-14 overtime win over the Peterborough Lakers on Sunday, bringing the B.C. town a step closer to Canada's senior men's lacrosse championship.

Garrett Billings produced a masterful performance, scoring three times and adding seven assists for Langley. Athan Iannucci added four goals and three assists and Joel McCready had his second straight hat trick and added two assists for the Thunder.

Cory Vitarelli led the way for the Lakers with four goals and an assist. Scott Evans also had a hat trick. Shawn Evans scored once and set up four goals.

Peterborough led 4-2 after the first period and outshot the Thunder 53-41.

Langley goalie Brodie MacDonald had some shaky moments midway through the game, allowing a three-goal run by the Lakers in each of the second and third periods, but made a series of huge saves late in the game.

The Thunder matched the Lakers' runs with a four-goal streak in the second and a three-goal run in the third. Iannucci scored what proved to be the winner at 5:39 of the 10-minutes overtime while the Thunder were shorthanded.

Game 3 goes Monday night at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
