OTTAWA -- A knee injury has forced Canada's Myriane Samson to retire from amateur figure skating.
The 24-year-old from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., won a silver medal at the 2011 Canadian championships, but was forced to withdraw from the world championships that same year with a knee injury.
She hasn't been able to compete since.
"This was a very difficult decision and one that I had to make because the pain in my knee is back," Samson said Thursday in a statement. "I had a great career with great experiences. Not everyone has the opportunities that I've had through the world of skating."
Samson plans to stay involved in the sport by focusing on teaching.
