International Scouting Services is releasing its first prospect ranking for the 2014 NHL Draft and there's a somewhat familiar name at the top.
The independent scouting network has Kootenay Ice centre Sam Reinhart leading the list, followed by defenceman Aaron Ekblad of the Barrie Colts and Swedish forward William Nylander.
Reinhart, the son of former NHLer Paul Reinhart and whose brothers Max and Griffin have already been drafted by the Calgary Flames and New York Islanders, led the Ice last season in goals (35), assists (50) and points (85).
Ekblad, entering his third season in the Ontario Hockey League, had 10 goals and 29 points in 63 games in 2011-12 and had seven goals and 34 points with a plus-29 rating in 54 games last season. In 2011, he was granted exceptional player status by the league, making him eligible for the OHL draft as the age of 15.
Also of note, Jacob Middleton of the Ottawa 67s is the next top-ranked defenceman at No. 17, while the top prospect from the QMJHL is Moncton's Ivan Barbashev at No. 11.
