TORONTO – In a rematch of last year's final, defending champion Kevin Koe of Alberta pocketed $17,500 and secured a spot in the Final of THE DOMINION ALL-STAR CURLING SKINS GAME Presented by Pinty's with a Semifinal victory over Manitoba's Jeff Stoughton this afternoon at Casino Rama in Rama, ON.
The highly-anticipated first-ever Final of THE DOMINION ALL-STAR CURLING SKINS GAME Presented by Pinty's airs tomorrow (Sunday, Jan. 20) at 1 p.m. ET live on TSN.
With $42,000 up for grabs in the final, Koe will face Glenn Howard of Coldwater, ON., after the current world champion collected $14,500 in prize money in the other semifinal to defeat four-time Brier champion Kevin Martin of Edmonton.
In front of a packed house at Casino Rama's world-class Entertainment Centre, Koe played alongside an All-Star team featuring B.J. Neufeld (Third), Brent Laing (Second), and Ben Hebert (Lead). Stoughton's All-Star team included Pat Simmons (Third), Marc Kennedy (Second), and Nolan Thiessen (Lead).
Koe took the lead early in the draw, stealing the first two skins for a total of $2,000 and picking up another skin in the fourth end for an additional $1,500. Stoughton won his first skin in the third end, winning $1,500, and took the fifth skin for $2,000 to even up the game. After two carry-overs in the sixth and seventh ends, it was all on the line in the final end. Holding the last rock, Koe won the $14,000 skin in the eighth end to secure his spot in the Final.
Koe also won the draw to the button challenge earlier this morning, which netted him an additional $1,000.
Stoughton won two skins and takes home $3,500 in prize money. After today's draw, Stoughton's career TSN skins game winnings now total $38,000.
