Cinderella Weekend

Throughout the course of sports history, there have been many teams and athletes that weren't supposed to win and just did. These are the teams that intrigue us the most as sports fans. From Buster Douglas to the '69 New York Jets, to the '93 Leafs, to the 2004 Boston Red Sox, we celebrate Cinderella Stories.

NHL On TSN Classics: 2010 Eastern Qtr - Montreal @ Washington, Game 7 (Apr. 28, 2010): The Canadiens and Jaroslav Halak shock the Capitals and the hockey world with an epic upset.

NHL Classics: 1993 Campbell Qtr – Toronto @ Detroit, Game 7 (May 1, 1993): The Leafs stun the hockey world as they upset the heavily favoured Red Wings in Detroit. The Leafs would go on to meet Gretzky and the Kings in the Conference Final.

ESPN 30 For 30: Survive And Advance: Jimmy Valvano coaches underdog North Carolina State to the 1983 NCAA Basketball title.

NFL Programming: Super Bowl III – NY Jets vs. Baltimore (Jan. 12, 1969): Joe Namath believed that the underdog Jets could win the Super Bowl against the battle-tested Baltimore Colts and Johnny Unitas. The original guarantee game.

Super Bowl XLIV - New Orleans vs. Indianapolis (Feb. 7, 2010): The Saints were only back in the Superdome for a year after Hurricane Katrina ravaged their home. Surely they couldn't win the Super Bowl right away, could they?

NHL Classics: 2012 Stanley Cup Final – New Jersey @ Los Angeles, Game 6 (June 11, 2012): The Kings barely qualified for the playoffs, finishing in 8th place in the Western Conference. They would catch fire and ride the wave all the way to the Stanley Cup title.

NHL Classics: 1986 Stanley Cup: Montreal @ Calgary, Game 5 (May 24, 1986): The Habs finished fourth in the Wales Conference and second in the Adams Division and dressed 11 rookies including 20-year-old Patrick Roy. The legend of the Hall of Famer began in 1986 as the Habs rode him all the way to the championship.
