OTTAWA -- The Western Mustangs moved into top spot in the latest Canadian Interuniversity Sport football rankings Tuesday, ending Laval's five-week run in the No. 1 position.
The Mustangs (6-0), who beat Queen's 50-31 last weekend, earned 17 first-place votes and 287 points in voting by the Football Reporters of Canada. Western was last ranked first in the country in October 2011.
The defending Vanier Cup champion Rouge et Or (5-0) received the other 13 first-place votes and had 283 points. Laval outscored Bishop's 46-38 last weekend.
The Calgary Dinos (5-0) moved up two spots to No. 3 in the latest poll and the Guelph Gryphons (5-0) jumped two positions to No. 4. The Gaels (4-1) fell two spots to fifth.
The rest of the top 10 was rounded out by the Saskatchewan Huskies (4-1), Montreal Carabins (3-2), Bishop's Gaiters (3-2), McMaster Marauders (2-3) and Manitoba Bisons (3-2).
