WHL: Honka scores twice as Broncos beat Warriors

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - Julius Honka scored twice, including the winner, as the Swift Current Broncos edged the host Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 in overtime on Saturday in Western Hockey League play.

Zac Mackay, Andrew Johnson and Jay Merkley also scored for the Broncos (16-10-3) while Graham Black chipped in with three assists.

Sam Fioretti led the Warriors (8-16-5) with a goal and three assists as Brett Howden added a goal and an assist. Erik Benoit and Jesse Forsberg each scored once to round out Moose Jaw's offence.

Eetu Laurikainen started the game for Swift Current, but was pulled after allowing three goals on 16 shots. Landon Bow earned the victory for the Broncos after stopping 23-of-24 shots in 47 minutes of relief. Moose Jaw's Justin Paulic made 34 saves in defeat.

Swift Current went 1 for 3 on the power play while the Warriors scored three times on five chances with the man advantage.

RAIDERS 8 HURRICANES 2

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Dakota Conroy scored three times and added an assist and Leon Draisaitl had a goal and three assists as the Raiders handed Lethbridge its fourth loss in a row.

Josh Morrissey and Reid Gardiner each scored twice for Prince Albert (15-9-2) while Jayden Hart tacked on two assists.

Griffin Foulk and Bryton Sayers scored for the Hurricanes (3-20-4) and Riley Sheen assisted on both.

Nick McBride made 20 saves for the win. Lethbridge's Teagan Sacher allowed six goals on 38 shots before getting relieved by Corbin Boes, who stopped 13-of-15 shots in 14 minutes of relief.

SILVERTIPS 1 HITMEN 0

CALGARY — Joshua Winquist scored the game's only goal as Everett blanked the Hitmen for its fourth straight victory.

Austin Lotz stopped all 25 shots he faced for the Silvertips (19-4-4) while Winquist's goal extended his point streak to 16 games.

Chris Driedger stopped 25-of-26 shots for Calgary (13-7-4), which had its three-game win streak snapped.

Everett went 1 for 5 on the power play while the Hitmen went 0 for 3.

ICE 5 WHEAT KINGS 2

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Sam Reinhart scored twice and Luke Philp had three assists as Kootenay downed Brandon.

Jaedon Descheneau had a goal and an assist for the Ice (15-11-2) while Rinat Valiev and Levi Cable scored the others.

John Quenneville and Ryan Pulock supplied the offence for the Wheat Kings (13-13-1).

Mackenzie Skapski made 24 saves for Kootenay as Brandon's Jordan Papirny stopped 33-of-38 shots in defeat.

REBELS 5 COUGARS 1

RED DEER, Alta. — Taz Burman made 40 saves and Dominik Volek scored twice as the Rebels toppled Prince George.

Conner Bleackley, Evan Polei and Rhyse Dieno also scored for Red Deer (12-12-2) and Brooks Maxwell picked up two assists.

Marc McNulty scored the lone goal for the Cougars (10-15-4).

Prince George's Ty Edmonds turned away 33-of-38 shots in defeat.

TIGERS 5 PATS 1

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Trevor Cox scored once and set up three more and Cole Sandford had two goals and an assist as the Tigers defeated Regina.

Curtis Valk had a goal and two assists for Medicine Hat (17-6-3) while Tyler Lewington added a single goal.

The Pats (14-12-0) got their lone goal from Geordie Maguire.

Marek Langhamer made 23 saves for the Tigers as Regina's Dawson MacAuley stopped 30-of-35 shots in defeat.

THUNDERBIRDS 5 WINTERHAWKS 4 (OT)

KENT, Wash. — Justin Hickman opened the scoring and forced extra time with his second of the game late in the third period as Seattle slipped past Portland.

Alexander Delnov scored the winner for the Thunderbirds (13-9-4) while Roberts Lipsbergs and Branden Troock added the others.

Taylor Leier and Brendan Leipsic each had a goal and an assist for the Winterhawks (18-5-3) and Nicolas Petan and Keegan Iverson had a goal apiece.

Justin Myles made 31 saves for Seattle as Portland's Brendan Burke kicked out 34 shots for Portland.

CHIEFS 4 AMERICANS 3 (OT)

SPOKANE, Wash. — Jason Fram scored 4:36 into overtime as the Chiefs came from behind to defeat Tri-City.

Keanu Yamamoto, Carter Proft and Mitch Holmberg also scored for Spokane (16-8-0), which trailed 3-1 with midway through the first period.

Philip Tot and Connor Rankin each had a goal and an assist for the Americans (14-11-2) and Lucas Nickles added had the other.

Eric Williams made 24 saves for the Chiefs while Eric Comrie turned away 40-of-44 shots for Tri-City.

ROYALS 5 BLAZERS 0

VICTORIA, — Patrik Polivka made 26 saves and the Royals blew the game open with four third-period goals en route to blanking Kamloops.

Tyler Soy had two goals and an assist for Victoria (17-10-1), who extended their win streak to four games, while Taylor Crunk, Isaac Schacher and Keegan Kanzig each scored once.

Bolton Pouliot stopped 26-of-31 shots for the Blazers (6-17-3), which is winless in eight contests.

The Royals went 2 for 5 on the power play while The Blazers went 0 for 4.
