OSHAWA, Ont. -- Ivan Nalimov made 41 saves as Russia earned its first win of the Subway Super Series with a 5-2 victory against the Ontario Hockey League on Thursday.
Nalimov was especially good in the second period when he let in both goals but held on despite the OHL outshooting the Russians 20-6.
The win comes after Russia lost twice to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League earlier this week.
Sergei Tolchinsky, Alexei Bereglazov, Ildar Shiksatdarov, Vladimir Butuzov and Vladimir Tkachyov scored for Russia.
Kerby Rychel and Brock McGinn replied for the OHL, while Matt Murray allowed four goals on 21 shots.
Tolchinsky and Bereglazov gave Russia a 2-0 lead with goals on just seven shots in the first period.
Rychel scored at 8:09 of the second and McGinn tied the game just over a minute later.
But Shiksatdarov put Russia ahead once again shorthanded before the period was over.
That set up third-period insurance goals by Butuzov and Tkachyov, who scored into an empty net, to seal the win.
The series resumes Monday with Russia and the OHL meeting in Sudbury, Ont.
