OHL: Petes score six goals in second to defeat Whalers

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. -- Brandon Devlin and Nick Ritchie each scored twice during Peterborough's six-goal second period to lead the Petes to an 8-5 victory over the Plymouth Whalers in Ontario Hockey League play on Thursday.

Anthony Stefano, Stephen Pierog, Stephen Nosad and Eric Cornel got the other Peterborough (2-1-0) goals.

Matt Mistele scored twice for the Whalers. Yannick Rathgeb, Danny Vanderwiel and Carter Sandlak rounded out the Plymouth (0-3-0) scoring.

Michael Giugovaz made 23 saves for the Petes, while Riley Corbin finished with 32 saves for the Whalers.

STING 3 SPITFIRES 1

WINDSOR, Ont., -- Taylor Dupuis made 48 saves to help Sarnia to its win over the Spitfires.

Bryan Moore opened the scoring in the first period for the Sting (1-1-0), and Jordan Addessi and Nickolas Latta made it 3-0 in the second.

Windsor's Slater Koekkoek spoiled Dupuis' shutout bid at 16:32 of the third period.

Spitfires (0-2-0) goalie Jordan DeKort allowed all three goals on just six shots before getting the hook 6:50 into the second period. His replacement, Dalen Kuchmey, stopped all 14 shots he faced the rest of the way.

COLTS 7 ATTACK 5

BARRIE, Ont., -- Brendan Lemieux and Josh MacDonald scored the tying and go-ahead goals 59 seconds apart, as the Colts used a five-goal third period in their win over Owen Sound.

Lemieux put the game out of reach with his second goal at 13:33 of the third making it 7-4. Mitchell Theoret also scored twice for Barrie (2-0-0). Jonathan Laser and Tyson Fawcett rounded out the scoring for the Colts.

Daniel Milne, Gemel Smith Jeffrey Gilligan, Chris Bigras and Ethan Szypula scored for the Attack (1-1-1).

Alex Fotinos made 21 saves for Barrie, and Jack Flinn had 35 stops for Owen Sound.
