Carl Gelinas produced a career-high six points and Petr Straka hit the 40-goal mark as the Baie-Comeau Drakkar crushed the host Sherbrooke Phoenix 8-1 on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.
Gelinas scored twice and set up four more for the Drakkar (42-19-5) while Straka, who entered the game with 37 goals, scored three times and chipped in an assist for a four-point game.
Straka's hat trick was his fourth of the season and fifth in his junior career. The 20-year-old winger now has 80 points in 53 games, which leads his club.
Raphael Bussieres had a goal and four assists for Baie-Comeau and Jeremy Gregoire and Maxim Lamarche each scored once.
Steve Lebel, Alexandre Comtois and Daniel Audette were a combined minus-15 for the Phoenix (20-37-8), which lost their third game in a row, while Lebel scored the club's only goal.
Francis Desrosiers made 28 saves for his sixth win since being acquired from the Chicoutimi Sagueneens at the Jan. 8th trade deadline. In his first-career start, 17-year-old David Richer allowed eight goals on 44 shots, picking up the loss.
Baie-Comeau went 3 for 7 on the power play while Sherbrooke scored once on five chances with the man advantage.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was Rouyn-Noranda 8, Rimouski 2 and Chicoutimi 7, Gatineau 1.
At Sherbrooke, Que., Straka and Gelinas scored 1:10 apart midway through the first period to give the Drakkar a 2-0 lead.
Lebel responded for the Phoenix at 17:16, however, that would be the end of Sherbrooke's offence as Baie-Comeau scored six unanswered goals.
Bussieres regained a two-goal lead for his club only 28 seconds into the second period and Straka made it 4-1 at 10:31.
Gelinas scored his second goal of the game at 12:52 and Straka's 40th goal of the season gave the Drakkar a commanding 6-1 advantage heading into the final period.
Gregoire, who also was acquired from the Sagueneens at the trade deadline, made it 7-1 at 5:21 of the third and Lamarche added Baie-Comeau's final goal at 9:41.

At Rimouski, Que., Nikita Kucherov, Jean-Sebastien Dea and Sven Andrighetto combined for six goals and 13 points as Rouyn-Noranda (37-24-4) crushed the Oceanic (39-17-9) for its third win in a row.

At Gatineau, Que., Simon Tremblay and Guillame Asselin each had two goals and an assist as Chicoutimi (29-30-7) downed the Olympiques (28-33-4), who fell to 14-18-2 on home ice.
