OHL: Boucher reaches 50-goal mark as Sting down Spitfires

Reid Boucher scored his 50th goal of the season as the Sarnia Sting edged the host Windsor Spitfires 2-1 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.

The 19-year-old forward is the first player in the Canadian Hockey League to hit the 50-goal mark this season and the first member of the Sting to do it since Steven Stamkos scored 58 in the 2007-08 season.

It took Boucher only 56 games to score 50 goals and he has a nine-goal lead over the Plymouth Whalers' Vincent Trocheck for the OHL scoring lead.

Daniel Nikandrov scored the winner for the Sting (31-22-3) with 13 seconds remaining in the third period while Alex Basso assisted on both of his club's goals.

Remy Giftopoulos scored the lone goal for the Spitfires (22-26-7), who dropped their third game in a row and sit seven points behind the Saginaw Spirit for the final playoff position in the Western Conference.

JP Anderson stopped 31-of-32 shots for the win as Jaroslav Pavelka made 22 saves in a losing cause.

Sarnia went 1 for 5 on the power play while Windsor scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Erie 4, London 3; Oshawa 6, Saginaw 4; Owen Sound 4, Guelph 2; Plymouth 3, Kitchener 2 (SO); Belleville 1, Mississauga 0; Peterborough 5, Ottawa 1 and Kingston 3, Sudbury 1.

At Windsor, Ont., both clubs had 11 shots on goal in the first period, however the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes of play.

Boucher opened the scoring with a power-play goal 8:29 into the second period.

Giftopoulos responded for the Spitfires just 1:50 into the third period while on the man advantage, but Nikandrov scored at 19:47.

At Erie, Pa., Dane Fox had two goals and an assist and Connor Brown chipped in with three assists as the Otters (17-31-8) handed London (39-12-4) its fourth loss in a row.


Generals 6 Spirit 4

At Saginaw, Mich., Scott Laughton scored three times and Scott Sabourin had a goal and two assists as Oshawa (32-19-4) won its third straight game by downing the Spirit (26-23-6).


Attack 4 Storm 2

At Guelph, Ont., Daniel Catenacci scored twice and Jordan Binnington stopped 24-of-26 shots as Owen Sound (34-17-4) doubled up the Storm (31-18-5) for its first win in three contests.


Whalers 3 Rangers 2 (SO)

At Kitchener, Ont., Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 52 shots and Stefan Nosen scored the shootout winner as Plymouth (30-16-9) slipped past the Rangers (32-15-8) for its fourth win in a row.


Bulls 1 Steelheads 0

At Mississauga, Ont., Charlie Graham stopped 37 shots for his third shutout of the season and Daniil Zharkov scored the game's only goal as Belleville (33-14-6) blanked the Steelheads (24-25-5) for its fourth straight victory.


Petes 5 67's 1

At Ottawa, Michael Giugovaz stopped 36 shots for the game's first star and Stephen Pierog had a goal and two assists as Peterborough (20-29-7) defeated the 67's (15-37-4) for its third win in a row.


Frontenacs 3 Wolves 1

At Sudbury, Ont., Mike Morrison made 33 saves and Ryan Kujawinksi's goal 2:28 into the second period stood up as the winner as Kingston (22-27-5) downed the Wolves (25-19-11) for just its second win in its last 15 games.
